We can certainly understand that many students are anxiously awaiting their decisions, and it can be very frustrating when they can't get ahold of anyone to find out what's going on. As you might guess, we're getting a lot of calls this time of year from these students, along with lots of calls from students asking if we've received their transcripts, SAT scores, why they were denied, if they can visit, etc...so our counselors are doing what they can to accommodate all these calls, but at the same time, if they do nothing but answer the phones all day, they won't be able to make decisions on these students. In general, students usually can speak to someone over the phone, but during busy times, they may have to leave a message on someone's voicemail and wait to get a call back.
One piece of advice I would give these students is to send us an e-mail at enroll@stonybrook.edu if they have any concerns. We usually answer every e-mail within 24 hours during the work week.
So rest assure, your application is being handled appropriately.
